XJ750 Seca Cafe Racer

Hey this is my first post. I just wanted to share my XJ750 Seca Cafe racer i built, I got a lot of help from these threads and wanted to show my build, and also give any help i can. Let me know what you guys think

Does it runs as nice as it looks? How did you set up the carbs to coencide with the pod filters?
I like them, and run them on my CB750, but many on this forum believe they are the "Spawn of Satan" attached to a XJ with CV carbs.

 

Nice CB750! Love the seat. But yeah it does run as good as it looks, i have ready that many people do have problems with pod filters, but i haven't had a single problem.
All i did was put stage 3 jets and the pods and its been running for 1,400 miles so far without any issues.

 

That's good to know that you where able to get the bike running correctly with pods. Do you have Mikuni or Hatachi carbs? Either way, I knew it was possible, my CB runs CV carbs, Keihins. It runs perfectly with them and smaller jets than stock.

 

I think they are Hatachi, they are the stock carbs. I originally bought the cheap pods, and i was having a lot of problems, i didn't realize the cheap pods have a lip on the inside of the rubber that blocks the carbs. So i bought the K&N RC-1894 pod filters and haven't had a problem since.

 

You get what you pay for with most bike parts. I think I dumped close to $90.00 for the ones on the CB. They are the dry type filters that can be washed up to clean them.
Which Orange County is home to you? East or West Coast?

 

Definitely agree with that, i think i spent around $140 for the set of my filters. I am on the east coast, in NY. I wish I was on the west coast, I could be riding!

 

I was going to give you a bad time if you lived on the West Coast about being able to ride year round. My brother loves in San Diego and he rides pretty much rides every day or he drives his convertible. Life's good.

 

It must be nice, my cousin just moved out to san fransisco about a year ago and he constantly sends my pics of the sunshine and warm weather. SOOOOO JEALOUS.

 

what is the part number for your breather pod if you have it?

 

Hey, for the breather filter I got the K&N 62-1340 Vent Air Filter from amazon for like $24. My XJ750 has a 1/2" nipple, but every time i got a 1/2" breather it wouldn't fit well and would rip. So this one is a 5/8" breather filter, slips right on and haven't had any issues.

 

What does the exhaust sound like with those mufflers? I really like the way they look. Part numbers?

 

I love the sound, its not too loud, but loud enough. Sounds like a street bike, an r6 or something.

Price isn't bad on those either. Might have to pickup a pair. Did you mount them with a bracket or just an exhaust clamp?

 

No issues? Have you found a large oil stain on your left pant leg? You might want to put a hose on the vent and tuck the filter away from your leg.

 

I mounted the exhaust just with the bracket. Sits tight and right.
And I haven't seen any oil or anything coming out from there, works pretty good for me.

 

Im thinking green for mine too! I got a 550 , I need a seca tank or something like it! I want to do green so it'll match my cbr haha

 

Metric bike has metric fittings. That's why a 1/2" didn't fit.

 

Buy a set of waterproof pre-filters for the pods. If you know its going to rain you can slip them on and it will keep water out of your engine. You can also leave them on when you wash the bike.

 

Nice bike, were did you get the engine guards?

How dialed in have you got the rpm’s ?
Did you just wrap the pick up wire around a HT lead?

 

Interested to know what you did for the seat and handle bars.

I have the same concept in my head for my 750 and yours looks great

 

Engine guards are the universal 3 point XJ/UJM.....interestingly, they were cheap as chips....in the 80's.....hard to find now, I believe you can get them brand new, from Italy, for about 150 dollars!!!

I really like this......most 'modified' XJ's I hate, but this has kept the XJ 'theme', whilst also being quite radically different !!

I am looking to begin a build on my 81 can I get some ideas on seats, handlebars, removing the airbox and making that center area clear? Just trying to order parts to get started and crank out this project.

 

Are you planning a cafe racer or a bobber? You could also start a threat of your own in the modification forms here and keep track of everything you do that as well as get recommendations. ~30lbs less than stock 550
