I am now up to $1015 into my 82 maxim 650 counting the 400 I paid for it.It had a ignition switch someone had driven a screwdriver into.I replaced that.It works.signals, dash light,tailights,etc.Cool.It had no horn, I got one for $4.00.It works now. The right side handlebar control was broke,no start button.all the wires were cut.Now its replaced and functional. I can finally start putting the head back on and hope to hear it run.Life's little pleasures.

You still will have less money tied up and satisfaction that you have resurrected the bike yourself than buying a new bike.

I agree. When I resurrected an 80 gs 1000 about 15 years ago it was really great the first time I rode it on the highway.I have made harley payments over $400 a month before.Stupid.Thes xjs thanks to ebay, you guys, and chacal are very affordable and fixable.

Nothing like that sound the first time it fires up. Good to hear you’re pushing along with it.

my wife left for another man.I have time on my hands. And the whole garage and storage room to use now.So why not do something I like to do.Dont feel sorry for me.If she wants to go, go.His problem now. I now am waiting on cams.So scrape old head gasket off.mount head.reattach exhausts.install the cams when they come.get it in time after trying to adjust the valves.reinstall valve cover.Mount the carbs with zero space to do it.Gas and oil.Hit the button and cross my fingers. If it runs, ride it all around the neighborhood so i can walk home if necessary. It has become a money pit.I am ready for it to stop.

YES let her go...( most of us have ex wifes) working on your bike is great therapy and takes your mind off of "her" and laughing at the next sucker...bikes are less fussy..wait a minute they want you to spend money on them and talk to them and hold and caress them hmm maybe they are like a woman after all:(
