What other forks will bolt straight on a 1990 xj900f, USD or normal.

    Check motorcycle spares in U.K.
Match steering head bearings with other models and bikes with same fork seal sizes. Same seal size as an xs1100 so same diameter fork.

I wouldn't bother with XS1100 forks. The brake calipers are only single piston pushing against two opposed pads whereas the XJ900 are twin piston opposed. That would be going backwards.
Maybe a set of forks from an FJ1200 might work. I've got some yokes from an FJ1200 and if you want to measure the length of the 900's lower yoke steering stem then I could measure the FJ's for you.
You've got to do a bit of homework.

Just a suggestion to get him on track to find other forks . Yes the XS is a leap backwards.

Sorry, didn't mean to sound like I was knocking your suggestion. Sure enough the diameter of the XS1100 and the 900 are 37mm. Flimsy things. I've upgraded my XS1100 forks for 43mm XJR1200 jobbies. Much better.
