Ive found a 1982 750 seca tank and was wondering if it would fit my 1981 550? Also found a
87-93 YAMAHA SECA KV500?? tank, if thats the correct number lol would that fit? Im also open to other tanks that would be straight-ish looking for a cafe racer, I cant stand tear drop tanks!

    Fuel tank interchange information
maybe it could work in reverse
    550r tank on the 650rj

you could always take a hammer to the 550 maxim tank and reshape it or cut the tunnel out and fab a tank onto tunnel
try ebay uk or germany for seca 550 tanks

No such model was ever made. The seller desn't know what he has. If it's the same listing that I'm thinking of, then it's a Seca 750 gas tank, and it's missing the fuel level sending unit.

Yeah. You’re right k moe. It sure appears to be a 750 seca tank.

Yea that's the one I saw, I've seen others but nothing saying what a 750 seca tank looks like or if it will fit a 550

Fitment was posted in the first reply.
We just confirmed that the misidentified tank you saw on Ebay is a Seca 750 tank, so that is what a Seca 750 tank looks like.

fitment was not posted in first reply, he said about a 550 tank on a 750 , not a 750 on 550

any tank can be made to fit if you want it to . the link I gave you stated 650 seca and 550 seca tanks will swap with just a little change to secure

    link also says 1982 XJ550r on a 1982 XJ750r are a close fit

so the inverse swap may work for you got to check the handle bars and tree

now i think you have a maxim 550 that tank is the shortest tank about 2 or 3 inches shorter than a seca 550 tank . so if you have a maxim 550 you can make a seca 550 tank fit easy enough with a plate to extend the mounting hole back. so I will assume a 650 seca tank and a 750 seca tank can be made to fit a 550 maxim frame with an extension plate. then you need to worry about handle bars and tripple tree

Ok so-- the 550r tank will just barely fit on a bare 750r frame, but is not a drop-on fit, for a complete bike. It's close enough to almost fit, but here are the problems:
if i had a 750 seca tank I would look into it more .

yup kind of a rare bike even though it was made for 3 years in US . more Maxims were sold.

search the euro ebay markets the 550 in Europe was a seca by any other name.

Yup. Sounds like you want the one that is hardest to find. Therefore most expensive if the bunch except for the 650r

I could run over to the storage shed and check figment of a 750 seca tank onto a 550 seca. My bars are not stock tho so I have no idea if that would help your situation or not

One can extrapolate given the data presented.
It will not be a drop-on fit, for many of the same reasons that the 550 tank will not drop-on to a 750 frame.

you could buy a maxim 550 tank and build a custom tank on the tunnel or buy a maxim 550 tank untill you find the tank you want.

flatten the sides of the maxim 550 tank and smooth with bondo no more tear drop tank.
