I have a 1981 xj550 seca that I got in pieces, I had it on the road at the end of the season last year. It needs the forks done, but I don't know what they are, the only numbers I can find on them is Y 4U800 and then right left. Everything is how it should be but, it has air tubes and as far as I can find that wasn't an option on this bike, it also has air shocks on the rear. The upper tubes are smaller than the maxim uppers. So does anyone know anything maybe special model or something, and would the seal kit be the same as the non air front end? Thanks for any help.

is the air nipple in the top of the tubes?
if so (I have seen these advertised on ebay) you should be able to just replace it with oem plugs
4u8 is the seca xj550 part number

    seals will be the same

the air forks do not take much air to help dampen. the top plug pushes down and you remove a circle clip then the whole thing pops out. be very carful not to have any weight on the forks or the plug and spring will fly out like pandora released from her box
be cautious of ebay seals many claim to fit but are too tall to be locked down by the spring clip

when you get 5 posts post a photo
I have a seca parts catalog if you want I can upload you a copy has great assembly drawings

Thanks for your help, the nipples are on top. I can't see a clip in there though. I also have to rework the carbs, i had them apart to clean them and 2 of the carbs had a #130 jet and the other 2 had the # 112.5 with pod filters. I finally found the air box for it, that was a challenge doesn't seem to compatible with any other bike( that always seems to happen to me) also got all the right jets for it.

The parts catalog would be great thanks, when I get anything I always get as much info I can for it, but everything is different some have some have less or different. This seca has been harder than the 1972 suzuki gt380 that I got at a scrap yard and resurrected.

Again thanks for all your help.

we do have a few members selling Seca 550 parts post in the wanted forums for what you need
the fork caps push down to revel the clip there is an o ring on the cap to seal it you may have to treat it with pb blaster for a few days it is nice to have a second pair of hands for that job. I would keep the air function just pump a few pounds in there to adjust the forks

I was thinking I was going to keep the air function, it holds air fine, mostly just wanted to make sure the right front so I put the right amount of fluid in.

Functionally I don't need much right now, has cheap handle switches right now, I will be looking for oem soon. Was looking for the side covers I can find the left 1 on ebay no problem, but they are either broken expensive or both, no right 1 anywhere, so I think I might make those out of diamond plate.

Thanks again for all your help and info.
