    Hello Everyone, thank you for the wealth of knowledge on here, it's a goldmine of information.

    So, My name is Andrew(Andy), I've been off the road due to epilepsy for the last 8 years, however, Ive just had the all clear to ride again and I'm just waiting for the DVLA to make it official.

    On the weekend I bought a Japanese import 1985 xj750, I believe its a Seca however I'm not sure....... I cant find any VIN numbers at the moment. Its worth noting the bike is definitely UK registered as I have seen and filled in the old log book. (Which just had Yamaha 750 on it)

    The bike has been sat for approx 15 years, last started about 10 years ago.

    The bike has pod filters so I'm probably going to put it back to standard. These were already on there when the previous owner bought it in the 90's and he thinks it was doing about 35mpg.
    I'd like to do a full hydraulic conversion of the front brakes, is there a braided hose option for this?

    The bike will need new cables, brake rebuild, fork rebuild, serious carb clean, fuse box change(The standard set up is just ridiculous) , seat recover, oil and filter change, a thorough going over and I will probably respray it a nice metallic red.

    Is there anything Ive missed out or anything that this bike has issues with that I need to pay particular attention too?

    Is there a UK source for parts?

    Thank you for taking the time to read my ramblings, I look forward to any advice that can be given.
    The bike in question is my profile pic.

    Thank you for the welcome and the info.

    I have now found the shorty vin and found the following info;

    World Manufacturer Identifier:

    J = Japan, Y=Yamaha, A= Motorcycle

    Vehicle Characteristics

    5G800 = 1981 XJ750 Japan

    Check Digit:

    X

    Model Year:

    B = 1981

    Assembly Plant:

    A = Iwata City Production Facility

    The engine just has 5G8 stamped on it, not the whole number, is that common?

    The Log book is 4 years out on manufacture date, also the bike is 5 years older than me.

    MODEL NAME: XJ750A
    STREET NAME: 1981 XJ750
    MODEL ID CODE: 5G8
    FRAME ID: 5G8
    SERIAL NUMBER STARTS AT: 000101
    NOTE: uses the 750cc engine in the XJ650RJ frame, and looks like the North American XJ750 Seca, and comes equipped with an oil cooler.

    From here http://www.xjbikes.com/forums/threads/tech-topic-model-id-and-vins.14577/ if you hav'nt already found it. Put a pic in here and it will be easier to tell it's variety, a bit hard to tell in your avatar pic.

    Don't think they use full engine numbers in Japan, I have another Japanese only model bike (not XJ ) that only has model ID as engine number. Enjoy your new toy.

    Hi Bushy thank you for the reply.

    Had the carbs off today, they were better than expected inside. IMG_20180422_182232209.jpg IMG_20180422_182243908.jpg IMG_20180422_182303981.jpg IMG-20180424-WA0002.jpeg IMG-20180424-WA0004.jpeg

    Nice basis, yes seca, as opposed to maxim, which is what I bought recently. You might need to look further than yambits, i hear there is someone in the nethrlands.

    Welcome Andy your bike looks good 2 thumbs up about going back to the stock air box . Highly recommend ordering new butterfly shaft seals from xj4ever and his solid brass float needles ...and when I did my carbs I bought the Allen head float bowl drain screws from xj4ever as well not cheap but has a cool factor. He also Carrie's the full braided steel hose kit great up grade .Keep us informed of your progress and we will help as much as possible .

    Thank you all for the welcome and words of encouragement.

    I will definitely check out yambits.

    The more I'm going through this bike the more it looks like it has been restored at some point.
