Wiring lights licenseplate

I have a 1983 xj750. I recently had the 2 wires for the brakesensor on the handle touch and it shorted . The result was that the auxiliary light,licenseplate light and lights in the speedometer and tachometer went out. I checked my fuses including the one in the headlamp .also checked the diode in the headlamp.
Can anyone give me some advice to what's wrong? There are no electricity in any of the wires for the lights mentioned above.

Thanks a lot. I will check in the bucket again. There was one there but it's a glass fuse 7.5 amps. Checked it with a multimeter and it's OK. Is there more than 1 fuse in the bucket? Thanks for the diagram.

 

And yes it's a Seca with rectangle headlight

 

Yes it's the brakefluid sensor wires that I shorted. That's when I lost lights in auxiliary lamp,dashboard lights and licenseplatelight. I took the sensor out and it seems like just a switch for brakelight to me. Anyway it is working

 

If it's the original glass fuse fusebox. Replace it.

 

Thanks for comments and advice. The main fusebox is replaced . Just 1 fuse in the bucket that is glass. I replaced it to but still same problem .

 

I can only see 1 fuse in the headlamp bucket and it's good.
This is a mystery for me.

 

Not sure what "auxiliary" lamp is? The dash lights and license light work on a separate section of the ignition switch routed through the 5 amp fuse in the headlight bucket on USA bikes, not positive yours are the same.

If you have the "P" position on the ignition switch try that and see if the meter lights and license light illuminate.

 

Thanks rooster. With auxiliary lamp I mean the light under the main headlight. That's good info. I will check it out. Will be back with either solution or not.

 

+1 on the 5A fuse for this circuit. Looks to be the case for UK models, too.

It feeds off a 3 pin connector in the headlight bucket, from the ignition switch block. With the connector connected, and the ignition on or in P, check if you have 12V between Blue and chassis. If you don't your main switch is probably bad. If you do, trace it to see where you're losing the 12V. It's not a long distance from there to the instrument backlight lamps. All on a Blue wire.

 

Today I finally found what caused the lights in speedometer and the rpm meter,parking light,auxiliary lamp underneath headlight and license plate lamp not to work
Under the tank after I got all the tape off was a blue wireconnection that was bad.the connection was warm .
Fixed connection and everything worked perfect.
Thanks to all of you that gave me advice on this. Great forum.
Now it's riding time)

 

Either it was warm from too much resistance or you may need to clean ground connections as well.
