so after looking through the Haynes shop manual, I'm led to believe that the xj650 shares the same airbox as the 750 from 1980-1983. Just wanted to see if anyone has any thoughts or experience that contradict this.

I ask because I just picked up a xj650 seca with cheap eBay pods instead of the stock airbox. After having some issues with idling I'm thinking it might be best to switch it back to the stock system. I just wanted to make sure I don't buy the wrong one -___- haha.

The Seca 650 airbox is not exactly the same as the XJ750 air box, but it is the same as every other XJ650 airbox (Maxim, all years).

Amen !!! The stock airbox is the way to go. Face it the engineers that designed it knew what they were doing , CV carbs do not like large volumes of air. It is much easier to "tune" and jets are easier to figure out , better all around performance.

It's not the volume; it's the velocity.

Could they be interchanged though? Is the sizing different? Or is it shape / mounting points that are different?

do you need a 650 air box? I have an extra one, sell it cheap to you.

oh I see you are in the UK shipping would be very costly.

Shape, mounting size, and (to some degree) volume are all different.

That is a kind offer thank you. However as you say I believe postage would be prohibitively expensive.

What is interesting,I have found an xj750E airbox for sale in Japan and it looks identical to the xj750 seca airbox's I have seen.

As far as I can tell, the xj750E electronics is the only difference between the A and E.

I am thinking the differances on air boxes is sometimes just the way side covers mount and fancy trim.
