    Hello All
Getting ready to adjust the valves on my 82 XJ650. Some of the valve cover bolts are stuck and I'm afraid of breaking them. Any ideas or techniques on how to remove.
    Thanks
    Ed

Warm the engine up. Unfortuantely the threaded portion is such that geting penetrating oil into them is essentially impossible.

One thing I highly recommend unless you already own a set... a set of metric allen wrenches is a great investment this slows you to use a little more leverage than just a regular allen wrench . think I bought my set at Sears for like 20$ Harbor Freight might have a set they are 3/8s drive .

Would an 3/8" butterfly impact driver loosen them? I' thinking that and heat.

Adding any more heat thean the engine makes will cause burnt rubber to occur.
The shock of a handheld impact driver can help, but you have to be careful that you don't wack it so hard that you crack the casting.

Ok, got them all off. Just needed a little more pressure and they broke free. Difficult to know how much torque to apply as they would twist. I guess due to their length . Got lucky this time.
    Thanks to all that replied.

Read my reply post what I should have told you to buy is a set of metric Allen sockets 3/8 drive this way you will be able to use a torque wrench to proper setting .
