I bought some smaller incandescent blinker lights to replace the OEM ones. They worked well on the first mock-up. I decided just to run rear blinkers and got some forum advice to replace the flasher with an electronic one, which I did- three prong (Novita EP35, LED 2-4 lamps, 12.8v/162W max) and remove the flasher cancellation unit, which I did. I am not getting any light at all. What did I miss?

You used the wrong flasher. The three prong type that Yamaha used is proprietary, and there is no equivalent currently available.
Here is the onfo you need. The link will send you to the two-relay modification that will let you keep the self-canceling feature. Info on the correct two-prong flasher to use is on page one.

How to convert to LED's and still have everything work

The information was written for the XJ750, but the relay information is correct for all XJ models.
If you want to go to LED signals, you will have to add diodes to the single dash indicator lamp that the 550 has. That is also covered in the linked thread.

Thank you! Can anyone point me to a specific brand and model SPDT relay?

Brand does not matter. You will buy based on specification. 12 volt, 40 amp, with the specified pin numbers (which defines it as an SPDT changeover relay).
