Everyone....Today marks the day. I decided that I would begin turning my 1983 Yamaha into a street fighter. BUT before i start, i have a few questions.
I will be welding today.....i dont have access to a MIG right now, all i have is my stick welder, and a oxy/ace setup that I could weld with. I will be welding were the shock mount are on the frame. Does anyone have any pointers or suggestions....

I've never done it, But form what I've heard, the frame tubes are very very thin, so using your stick welder turn it down as low as you can or you'l burn a hole trough the frame tubes.

Take heed to Ace's warning. Very thin frame. My mig welder worked ok. Strong welds just not too pretty. Also try and remove the paint from the area your welding. Not only to prevent fire , but also it really smells bad when it comes up under your sheild. As a safe guard i unplugged my TCI unit, voltage reg, and battery. Good luck with your mods man.

If/when welding your shock mounts....put a couple small tacks on first, to avoid pulling. Be sure to cover your stud threads, or spray with anti-spatter, to avoid damaging any threads. Cleaner the surface....cleaner the weld. Measure twice....weld once! 8)

Do any of you have any suggestion on location of placing the shock mounts. Because I am moving them to make a seat height adjustment.

My bike was already done when I aquired it, but it was just drilled through the tail frame, and a bolt inserted from the back side. Then welded solid on both sides, then re-enforced, and boxed in with 3/16" steel plate. The seat height (frame height actually) is 66cm from the ground. I believe the shocks that are used are actually off of a different bike as well. They measure 31cm (hole centers). Hope this helps a little....

    Cheesy!
