So far advance and auto parts don't have them, or might not know what I am talking about. Possible that lowes or home depot might carry them? I'll have to go look, because getting someone on the phone that actually knows something isn't going to happen.

Surprisingly, almost any parts department at a dealership will have them. My local shop has them on the counter, an "impulse" item along with ear plugs, etc.

Get one with a clear window.

i got one at a true value hardware store. i think you just need to go to one that also has small engine parts and does small engine repair. i just asked the guy for one and he went in the back and got it. was like 6 bucks.

    you mean drain the gas?

you dont necessarily have to drain the gas to put the valve in. i had a 100% full tank when i installed it. all you gotta do is clamp the gas line tight cut and quickly install the on/off valve. you may get a small drip if its not totally clamped shut. it really wasnt that bad. once you cut the line you can basically put the valve in in about 10 seconds. it helps to use a blow dryer to warm up the hoses too so that they flex easy.

or you can just drain the gas. but just giving you another option depending on your working conditions.

I was thinking any Lawn & Garden store, or small engine repair shop.

On a side note.... Is this an advisable mod that the XJ650 is notorious for?

    I'm new :p

meh only do it if your petcock doesnt work properly. test your petcock and see whats up with it. and honestly since your bike is being assembled now i would say it would be pointless for you. you might as well just do it right and build it with a working petcock. i had to install the fuel valve but only becuase i needed to store my bike asap and didnt have the time to fix the petcock.

but ALSO you could install the valve as a just in case. guess that part is up to you.

and lastly. once the spring hits i plan on fixing my petcock and then since i wont need the fuel valve anymore im just going to replace it with a fuel filter. so that works out well.
