Knowing that several Members have snapped-off the Middle Gear Drain Plug and that it is not necessary to drain the oil from that cavity during a routine Oil Change ... as outlined in the Factory (Not Haynes) Manual ... would you risk trying to get the thing out for less than a half-cup of oil in there?

Ordinarily I'd go try and pull my middle gear plug to see who is right. But since it's 20 deg in the barn, and snowing, I think I'll just take Rick's advice.

I have it easier, as I have a 4-1 exhaust, still easy to break with the age of bolts....... if you do take it out, replace the bolt

Nothing like participating in a poll based on totally unbiased questions. :)
It's a bit like going to the ballot box in some small south pacific banana republic, totally fair and democratic as long as you vote for the man who organised the last military coup :!:

    Hey, Mon ...

"Chew gunna vode fur me or my brudder?"

I could have worded it to be so confusing you couldn't figure-out what to pick.

"In the confusion, I can't remember if I fired five or six times!"

Or..... Do you think you should drain the oil from the middle gear drain plug?

    Yes

    No

We've just had a general election in OZ maybe I'm a bit jaded with polls, or we may just qualify as a South Pacific Banana Republic!

No. Drain plugs are bolts and do not have oil inside them. The bolts on brake lines, however, are hollow and should be cleaned out with small pipe cleaners and brake cleaner when you take the master cylinder off for its overhaul.

    ;)

Oh, you meant "drain the oil from the middle gear SUMP!" Now I get it...

Talk about yer biased survey questions... :D

I've got some aftermarket 4 into 2 exhaust on my bike so it's real easy to get to but I voted it isn't worth it for that tiny amount of oil. Heck, I'm sure there's at least that much old oil still scattered around inside the engine.

    There is more.
In the recesses between the Valve Buckets.

I don't see anyone removing the Cam Cover to sop-up the oil in the Camshaft area.
