I don't see any harm in experimenting. This issue has come up for plenty of folks, and I don't think I've seen this approach to resolving it before (maybe I missed it though). I don't see why it would have to look awful with the right fit and finish.

My bike has 4-1 it vibrates at all RPM it seems but seems worse around 4800-5000 which ironically is where I tend to cruise... 100-110 kph it used to make my hands numb in 15 mins riding a highway.
The cushion grips helped a bit
The bar weights recently added helped significantly
Wearing my heavier padded riding gloves also helps a bit
The best thing I've found so far, is to not let it sit at a particular RPM too long, or it gets an annoying harmonic that tries to give you carpal tunnel syndrome.
By varying my speed a bit here and there, lightly accelerating and decelerating 2-300 RPM it's not as annoying or tingly on the hands... On a curvy road, simply slow for a corner then accelerate tru it instead of cruising one speed... Etc.
    Hope this helps

Is your bike one of the rubber mounted engine ones? If not surely this is a step in the right direction?
