XJ 550 testing charging system

    Hello, I'm looking for info on testing my charging system.
    I bought a new gel battery and was hoping it would do the trick. Part of the time it will charge around 4k rpm's but not all of the time and now the battery is getting drained enough that the bike isn't starting. I checked and cleaned the the plate and brushes. The bike does not like to run well between 2 and 3 k rpm's. I'm looking for some tests to use on the bike.

    make sure your grounds are there and clean.
    one is on the coil mounting bolt this is the harness ground . the one from battery to motor and from motor to frame at the battery box mounting screw
