Hey guys, I changed out the stock guage for smaller aftermarket set. Unfortunately I now do not have a fuel guage. Does anyone know if there is a way to hook up a low fuel light using the stock sending unit?

    Thanks for any input

Anything is possible, my 84 KZ550 LTD had a low fuel light , a level went down it would start out faint to bright red when empty similar to fuel gauge. Not sure if you could take 2 sending unit wires and run it to a bulb holder you might pull sending unit out and move it up and down to see if light illuminates. You would need to run one wire to a power source hot only when bike powered up and other to ground.

Thanks for the reply. Is there a safety issue with running a power supply to the sending unit?

IIRC teh fuel gauge is measuring a resistance, so you need an Ohm meter. not sure though if the variable resistance is even linear wrt the fuel level.. Maybe you can include the sender/resistor in sort sort of transistor bias circuit that can drive a LED as it reaches a critical level.
I somehow passed a degree in electronics but I'm utterly hopeless at it.
