I looked out my window this morning... and quickly realized that riding season is over. My entire back yard is covered with about a quarter inch of ice... including two 45-ft trees (now horizontal, and partially in the neighbor's yard). Power is out in about 13000 homes just north of us. Our cars have a nice glaze on them..

    Did someone say "caging time?"

    :x

Here are some pics of the elusive "Oklahoma winter."

Honestly... This is BS. We've lost all of our big trees to either tornadoes or ice storms.

I'm from Kansas City (err, suburbs south of it on the Kansas side) and I remember the horrible winter ice storms! Several inches of pure ice, then possibly some snow on top to make even the snow plows unable to drive.

Now I live in Boulder, CO. We got about 6-8 inches of snow over the past 2 days (constant downfall), temps in the teens or single digits. Best part yet: I'll probably be able to take my bike to campus tomorrow when the snow has all melted. If not tomorrow, then almost definitely tuesday!

And thats why I love Colorado weather...just when you think you understand it, it changes! It can be snowing one day, and then in the 60-70s the next!

That tree looks just like the one a windstorm blew over in my yard. Fortunately it fell away from the house and didn't do any damage. I don't have to worry about winter too much except it's kind of chilly riding when it's only 50 degrees but I've almost been killed in dust and wind storms a few times.

I live just outside of Gainesville,Georgia and we are in the middle of a drought and would even welcome an ice storm if it put water back in our lakes. It's so bad they say we have about 200 days of water left before we start sucking the bottom of the lakes dry. Folks around here are getting $500 to $1000 fines for watering and even getting their water cut off. So if you don't mind when it starts melting send all you can our way.
