I sold both my xj650s to a young man named egan.He is going to join the forum. He has zero idea about working on a motorcycle. The one I sold him rides and runs, has no brakes. He is enthusiastic newborn into the motorcycle world. Please welcome and guide him.I told him this was the best forum ever.I also told him to get into the information overload section. I have just a 2011 Suzuki now.My wife went one way I am going the other so needed to get rid of everything I could. These xj bikes are such a good machine.Except for the shim and bucket valve adjustment.

That isn't really the hard part. Try a shim under bucket setup some time...

On the other hand, the carbs... Everything from getting them out to setting the damn floats. That is just the pits.

Yikes! So the brakes are non-operational on this bike? He needs to make that his top priority.
