What size Pods do I put on a XJ700 x

    My sister gave me her '85 Maxim X. She is unable to ride it anymore due to her health and it is missing the airbox assy. I want to put pods on the intake and do not know what size to order. I tried a set of universals but they did not fit. Any suggestions?

    The bike was trashed pretty bad by her ex, he had hot wired it and now I have to replace the wiring harness and all. The original motor threw a rod a few years back and now it has some type of air cooled motor on it and I cannot figure out what size it is. The only markings I have been able to find are 2500 cm3. I am new to Yamaha's and could someone please tell me where to look to find the engine size?

    The bike originally had a 696 (700) on it but when it threw the rod we tossed the old motor and Sis bought an air cooled replacement. Thing is, she cannot remember what size it is except that it is heavier (???) than the original and uses more fuel. As for contacting Yamaha, I call Paris Yamaha Saturday and they said they couldn't look up my VIN number. They claimed that it was not the correct number so I went back and read the decal on the front of the frame, read the Numbers stamped into the frame to make sure they were correct. I was looking for other parts for the bike as well (she kept the original carbs) and trying to match up some pods to it.

    This is all I know. Frame #285 Stamped on right side of housing close to oil filler hole is 4w5-001898. Since the motor was switched, this bike has seen maybe 75 miles and then was parked until it was hotwired. All he did was jump the ignition somehow and start it up. Then the neighbor ran him off. I have the title and all registration paperwork, but not the keys.

    Okay. This link is telling me that possibly this motor is a XJ650LH?

    I just know that it flies when opened up. Or used to anyways.

    The aircooled engines have the engine size cast into the head/jug directly in the front.
    It is in the center between the middle exhaust ports.

    thanks. I never would have found it. It is a 650 swap. Talked to sis and she said she did in fact swap carbs too.. So now I guess I am looking for pods for a xj650lh.

    Yamaha usually stamps a code on the bottom casting of the ignition switch.

    I'm not certain on your model, but if you can look for a decal or a stamping on the underside of the switch, use a mirror and flashlight maybe?

    That number is the key code, a locksmith should be able to make you keys from that number.

    On the pod question, 650 and 750 carbs are the same.
    The K&N pod filter kit should fix you up.
    You will need to rejet, so a Dynajet kit will be required.
    You are now looking at a bit of coin, so why not spend the extra for an aftermarket exhaust, to complete the tune up.
    I have this setup on my 82 750 Seca, and it runs like a raped ape above 6k.
    You do sacrifice some low end though.
    The jet kit comes with adjustable needles and a variety of jets, so you should be able to tune it to your needs.
