How do you keep it from being a tangled mess when riding!? When I was first riding it was short, was bikeless for awhile and then grew it out before getting another bike. Every ride makes my hair an absolute rats nest. How have others delt with this?

long enough to pony tail and tuck in the jacket? My wife and girls deal w/ long hair, so I've seen different solutions. 1 daughter in army must wear a sock-bun. She hates that and it probably won't fit under helmet.
My wife would probably say "french braid it"

Tucked in the jacket didn't seem to save me. Braiding it sounds good. Now I have to figure out how to braid my own hair.

When I had hair, I kept it braided.
A French braid is pretty easy to do for yourself once you get the pattern down. It helps to have a neck mirror so you can see the back of your head in a wall mirror behind you, but it can be done by feel.
