Sorry for hogging the boards a bit but hey, there's like 2 feet of snow outside so there's not much to do...
    Aaaanyway... here's the deal.
A few days ago I finally finished rebuilding the carbs on my XJ900.
When I originally got the bike about 9 months ago it was a basketcase and the carbs weren't even hooked up so here's my problem.
As you look at the back of the carbs,
there are two fuel hoses coming off and 4 of what appears to be overflow hoses that are thinner than the fuel hoses and seem to be vinyl rather than rubber.
But just under the fuel hose on the left is another spigot that looks like a fuel hose should go on it. In the manual I can see there's one t-junction where two fuel hoses meet, but what is that third spigot for? Is it another fuel hose? And the 4 overflow hoses, they don't seem to be long enough to do anything but send fuel all over the top of the gearbox cases if there was an actual overflow.
If anybody can part the clouds for me, I'd be mightily obliged.
    thx,
    baz

The ones you call overflow hoses are vents for the float bowls. Older models just had a hole drilled in the body but newer models have hoses installed that you need to connect to the airbox in order to equalize the pressure. There should be small nipples or something on the airbox to connect them to.

Thanks for the explanation. I don't remember seeing any nipples on the airbox but I'll check again.

What about the spigot below the left fuel hose? It looks like a fuel hose should be connecting there. This spigot rotates about 40 degrees on a shaft.
    Any ideas?

Dunno, maybe it had duel fuel lines like the 1100?
Also, it's possible the overflow hoses just hang down and don't go to anything.
Check the hose routing diagram in the service manual. It should show
    where everything goes.

It's already got dual fuel lines that meet at a t-junction but there's a third fuel spigot that's right under the left hand fuel hose. I guess I have to get the Haynes manual since the factory manual doesn't show carb hose routing. Either that or maybe I can get RickOMatic to "pipe" up.
