For anyone interested, heres the basic principal of why synthetic oil is better.
This topic may get long winded because everyone has thier own opinion, and this first posting is only the base idea of synthetics... There are many other pros n cons.
    But here goes! ;)

In the great scheme of things, synthetic oil is man made, not directly from the ground and refined.
The idea is to make longer chain molecules than what you get in nature.
The gaps between molecules is where they seperate under stress and load, allowing metal contact, wear.
Longer molecules = less gaps = less chance of seperation and contact.
The gaps between the molecules is also where dirt and such collects, weakening bonds even further... Again less gaps the better.
This is the basic principal why synthetic is better.

Here is a real bad drawing illustrating this principal.
    Metal is grey
    Oil is red
    Dirt is blue
    Load is green

conventional oil, especially when dirty, has more gaps in the molecular bonds, allowing easier seperation under load, allowing more contact and wear than a synthetic oil :)
    Class dismissed! Lol!,

Stahl, if you dont use synthetic designed for motorcycles, with "clutch modifiers" in it you are 109% correct.

I would rather kill another dinosaur and use conventional oil on the safe side. no worries about that aging starter clutch, or possible clutch slipping which I would think would be because of being on the worn side any ways and just exasperated by syn oil

read where synthetic oil comes from

    Ya, i know all that...
But the question remains... Are the dinosaurs happy lubricating your motorcycle engine at 9000 RPM?

The filtering method makes a huge difference in the oil's capability to retain layering properties. As the carbon and metal particles contaminate the oil you lose layer stability. The folded paper insert that is on these bikes is horrible and with it being air-cooled oil life-span is expected to be short. Most of the filters on the market are nothing more than thin folded paper in a cheap can. I will only buy Wix or Amsoil filters (made by Wix) for any equipment I can find them for.

yes , because way they get to go for a ride.

considering what synthetic oil is made from, added to the chemical process to produce it, I doubt it is really something you could consider Green or even saving oil for the future generations.
