    Hi Guys.
I degreased my carburetor rack from my 82 XJ650 maxim in a solvent overnight and now they are tarnished and black rubs off. I pulled all the fittings and rubber beforehand. Any idea if there is another solvent to remove the tarnish of if I should blast with something?
    Thanks !

You soaked it in an alkaline cleaning solution (a no-no with aluminum)
    You now have semi-anodized carbs.
There is no return trip. Not that will make them look like they did when new anyway.
Give them a good scrub with a scotchbrite pad and you will get them looking better, but the darker/flatter finish is not going away.

Tnx. But all is not lost ? Aside from discoloring they should work fine ?
    Rookie mistake!
    Tnx

They will work perfectly fine, so long as they were rebuildable in the first place.

give them a buff on a brass wire wheel and they will buff out nicely. they just wont be that bright carb grey anymore. You can always paint them too.
