    I need some help!!!!!!!

I am having problems with the relays on my bike, 1985 XJ700XN MamimX.

Sometimes when I turn the key to on none of the relays will work, other times they all work. Could this be an electrical short. I'm afraid to start tearing into anything because the bike will run fine one day and won't start at all the next.

    Any ideas?

    Brad

Gb is headed in the right direction.
First, make sure your kill switch isn't flaky.
Next, ensure that your supply voltage is making it through the ignition system. Check for voltage at the fuse, ignition switch and kill switch.
Another thought is: Do you have the book for your bike? A schematic and trouble-shooting matrix is just what the doctor ordered.

Do you have the original fuse box? If so, it could be getting flaky on you. Turn your key on and move the fuse "box" around gently to see if you get power fluctuations.

I had a problem with my tail light not coming on sometimes. I could get it to come on by turning the key off and on or just wiggling it a little. I took the ignition switch off, took it apart and cleaned the connection points and it fixed my problem. If it turns out not to be one of the other things mentioned, maybe that could be it.
