I recently bought a Colo(u)rtune plug from Chacal. I tried to use it on a cold, windy day a couple of weeks ago & was not happy with it.

Today was much warmer & no wind. The Colortune plug worked great . It was very easy to see the yellow (rich) flame disappear & the correct blue one appear.

All 4 cyls are done. The rpm rose quite a bit as the carbs were set correctly & I reduced them as I progressed.

Very happy with my $47 investment :D

Best thing to come out of any part of Europe since Reebok.

No really I cant see how anyone could keep a XJ running without a colortune

I like tuning at night or in a garage. Reducing the amount of ambient light makes it easier to see the flame. At the last NTCC we had trouble seeing the flame in the bright Texas sun so Rex brought out a jacket and we tuned the bikes under the jacket!

being that a maxim x has recessed spark plugs, can you use a colortune on a maxim x?? It's the only thing holding me back from buying one

Yes you can. If the sparkplug will fit so will the colortune. The X uses the 12mm colortune and I have heard it is easier to insert the colortune into the recess using the periscope that comes with the colortune.

Many have done it before, and many continue to do so. I am one of them, and I will not use one. Why, do you ask? Because in my experience, the farking things DO NOT WORK.

I was somewhat sceptical after my first attempt. However, yesterday it worked as the manufacturer says it should.

I did have to make a slight mod to the thin flexible cable you screw onto the top of it. I could not get the top end of that cable to push into my resistor plug cap. The metal end was just too big. I ground it down & made it a good push fit.

The transformation of the flame colour was very easy to see. I made large turns of the mixture screw at first to check whether there would be any colour change...there was. I then did it gradually & was pleased with how easy it was. I could hear the engine responding favourably as I came close to getting it set correctly.

    Worked for me.

schmuckaholic you have to be smarter than the Colortune! Or use it in a dark area at least. I like them so much I bought a pair so I can do both cylinders on a side at the same time but I can only do it after the sun goes down else I can't see the flame color.
