I found an xj650 on offer up for $400 asking price. It was partially disassembled as posted/pictured in the add. So i go look at this "project" thinking; "ok, i can slap these few parts back on, gas it, fire it up for a quick test drive." Turns out most parts are there but some are missing. Mainly missing bolts/nuts/washers here n there. Long story short i walked away with bike in my truck for $300 & no bartering done.

So I get home with the bike and here is whats missing
    Rear brake drum assembly
    Battery
    Left/right side covers
    Tail light
Keys for ignition seller has them for pick up tomorrow bolts for rear foot peg brackets (had only 1)
Several allen head screws for the clutch housing cover(hundreds at work)
    Fender/grab bar bolts
    Acorn nuts for the head
    (3-4)
As I'm putting parts back on the bike to see what else is missing. I notice the small right side cover (the one which says yics on other models) is rashed & fractured. Now it looks like i have 2 projects. My 750 will be a bit more extensive and custom. The 650 will just be put back together for a rider. For now. Looks like ive been bitten 20190622_202132.jpg

it is not a YICS motor but you can replace broken cover with YICS covers

Yes, I know its not a yics engine. That's my idea on cover plate replacement if the current cover plate can't be fixed.

nice thing about the blank covers is you can get creative with what you paint on them

Very true. They can also be machined for a lexan insert as well
