Recently my 82 xj650 started making distinct thump (or tick) that seems to be coming from single cylinder or manifold. I did valve clearances about 1,000 miles ago and recently had carbs cleaned. Can anybody decipher from the video?

For me I would have to hear the before and after sounds. The sound of a sewing machine is normal. When is the last time you check and adjusted the valves?

Check for exhaust leaks. Probably at the crossover

Sounds exactly as my 750 XJ Seca from 1982. I have adjusted valv clearance, new carborator rubbers and renovation of all carbs

A distinct tick or slap sound is a side effect of properly set valve clearances. You get the valves loosened (they get tighter with use) and end up with a bit of a slap. It could be that or exhaust as k-moe suggested.
