    Hi, my name is Jasen and I am new owner of a 1981 Seca 750. I have a few questions though. How do I know if my bike is an XJ? What is an XJ or what does it stand for? My bike has YICS emblems on it, what do they stand for? Is YICS a good thing?

    welcome to the best bike site there is jasen. if you have any problems and or questions the people in here are a fountain of knowledge and if they can't help you fix it then toss is cause no-one is is going to be able to. yes you're bike is an xj (its just a model code) and the ycis i think is a great thing and it stands for "yamaha induction control system", itmeans your carbies are linked by a smaal portal that runs below the carby mounts to help the motor run smoother at idle and low revs. ( i think that is the general gist of it) any mate stick around and enjoy, like i said this is the best site you will ever find for bikes and tech stuff. cheers from aust

    Welcome aboard! The XJ is just what Yamaha decided to call the bikes. I don't know of any particular meaning. Their current cruisers are designated XV, the V for V twin engines; but I don't know of any meaning for the J in our bikes.
    The YICS name has been answered and as for is it a good thing? ......there will be room for argument on this but I don't particularly care for it. It is not a bad thing and does work well, but the extra tools needed to work with it are a downside to me. The 1981 Seca broke the 12 second 1/4 mile record for 750cc stock street engines when it came out, so that is a good jewel in the XJ YICS crown. Never hurts to be the fastest bike right off the showroom floor.

    Let me clear this up, once and for all.............

    X = X-treme
    J = Jealousy
