    how can i tell exactly what make and model carburetor i have other than going by a repair manual is there and numbers or markings to look for

    If the bike in question is the Maxim 750 from your avatar, you have Hitachi HSC-32 carbs. If you look along the side of the carb body you will see a stylized H inside of a circle (the Hitachi Logo), and there may be the remnants of the original black ink stampings on the bottom of the float bowls.
