While working the Vintage Road Racing Assoc. booth on saturday night I took some time off to walk around. I found the show mostly repetitive. The used bike mart was 95% ripoffs. $1000 bucks for a completely scrapped buell blast? Yeah, great deal. Although, I did see a nice CB1100F for $3200 that needed a bit of cosmetic work. The product tables were mostly overpriced crap you can get at Motorcycle superstore on River Street a lot cheaper any day of the week. The "art choppers" were a joke, as usual. Why don't these "moto-artists" just do up a washer or drier? They'd go just as fast as their pimped-out batmobile bikes or whatever the hell that gay looking crap is called. You can do about 10mph in a straight line if you're driving on a pool table but that's about it. Don't run over a paper cup or anything, you'll destroy the bodywork. Like I said. Totally gay.
I guess I'm biased but there were a few interesting bikes at the VRRA stand but then I like old Jap racebikes. And did you get a load of all the weekend warrior outlaw biker types? What a bunch of clones! All these quaffed and goateed "dudes" in their full-length leather bathrobes and their toe-capped cowboy boots with tinware boot braces. And their fat-assed hags in super-tight leather pants with "outlaw" iron-cross embroidery, yada yada. What a herd of poseurs! I'd bet you dollars to donuts most of them have never been on a bike. There was even some stooge wearing 'Hell's Angels - Ontario' colors but they were brand spanking new. Looked like he'd just bought the vest at one of those ripoff product tables - or maybe at Walmart.
As for the new bikes. They're way too expensive. Importers have to start bringing in more reasonable bikes like the 600 Hornet, the Yamaha XT600C and others we never get here in Canada where there is only a narrow selection of sport bikes, cruisers and dirt bikes. And that's my rant...

Sorry I missed you Baz - I was there and gone by the time you started at the booth - I left just after 5.

Although I agree with most of your 'review' - I will say this was one of the better shows I've ever been to, and actually think it was worth the $18 to get in.

Like most shows, everything's a bit of a search - lots of bargain bin crap, and some good stuff they're willing to haggle over. You can get good stuff for a good price, but you've got to know what you're looking for and be willing to do the searching through all that.

Sorry I missed the show in December - really wanted to see more of the newer bikes, as I was disappointed in how few there were on display -- but again, as it's the actual dealers there, they're just going to bring what sells.

The bike museum and older bikes on display were fantastic - by far the best part of the whole show.

All in all I saw a lot of great stuff, a whole lot more crap & irrellevant stuff, lots of poseurs as Baz said, and actually had a good time walking about.

Good to read some reviews on the show, makes me not feel so bad for not going. I had a couple discount entry coupons from NCK but I kind of figured the only thing there that would really be of interest to me is the vintage stuff so I spent the 150 I had saved for the show weekend on a new Smith O\A Torch that was up as a buy it now on eBay. Now I'll be able to weld what I want when I want and how I want it...lol...heavy emphasis on the how I want part
