Head replacement/Valve Tune 1981 XJ550

    Ok, I had to put a different head on my bike d/t a couple broken exhaust bolts...Happy to say, new head is on, timing chain and cams are also back on and in spec. Now on to tuning the valves...

    Intake:
    1 - .13 245
    2- .1 245
    3 - .18. 250
    4 - .18 260

    Exhaust:
    1 - .15 260
    2 - .15 255
    3 - .04 255
    4 - .1 255

    I read on some thread there was a trade system going on. I am willing to donate my extra valve shims to the group. Otherwise would love help on where to obtain the correct sizes.

    Intake:
    1 - .13 245 good
    2- .1 245 need 240 swap 245 into exhaust #4
    3 - .18. 250 need 255 swap 250 into exhaust #2
    4 - .18 260 need 265

    Exhaust:
    1 - .15 260 need 255
    2 - .15 255 need 250
    3 - .04 255 need 240 swap 255 into intake #3
    4 - .1 255 need 245 swap 255 into exhaust #1


    need a 240 for ex #3
    need a 240 for in #2
    need 265 for in #4

    so you need 3 shims to do the job

    Everybody loves the "shim hop" !!!!

    Just make sure you do them one at a time, and don't turn the engine without a shim in place.
