After 37 years and 40,000 miles, it was time to replace the starter motor brushes. Very helpful video in the electrical section of Len's catalog showed all the steps.

Helicoiled two stripped valve cover bolt holes, and installed the oil cooler radiator. Still need to make the lines, and see whether I'll need any other fittings to route them cleanly past the headers.

Thanks, but I've seen that picture and it doesn't give me enough info, like, how is the spring nested below the tab?

I must be a numbskull because nothing fits. Maybe the ring bracket was tweaked when the bike went down?

the loop should go under clip on inner ring (ring with adjusters) and the arms go to outer ring

Not working for me, nothing snaps together or even holds together. Still trying to get this together so I can reassemble on bike.

Cleaned the enrichment circuits, put it back together and it (with a little starter fluid) fires right up! Turned the throttle down to idle, and idles away. Still need to balance carbs, but she runs. Into some cosmetic stuff once it’s dialed in. Thanks to everyone on here for all the tips and tricks

Finally got the engine mount insulators changed out on the midnight. Got the swing arm put back in with new bearings and seals tonight. Hoping tomorrow I can get the final drive cleaned up along with the brake backing plate with new shoes and get the rear wheel back on with new bearings installed in it. Still have calipers and master cylinder to rebuild, clutch to replace, air filter to replace, intake boots to swap from the parts bike, and then some mirrors and throw over saddle bags to fit. Making progress slowly but surely. Wont be long and ill have to get some tires ordered for it. Hope all is well with everyone.
