    Hey guys!! I have a '81 xj 750seca, 14, 000 to date.
I changed the headlight bulb with an aftermarket led bulb recently. The "head" ( ie headlight) indicator is now lit on my odometer display (But wasnt lit b4 I changed the bulb). What happened guyz?
Is a " ground" , or something, required? Thx in advance 4 your help.

I am going to guess you changed the resistance of the headlight and the system does not like it. Just telling you something is up. So someone with much more knowledge will tell you what resister or diode to put in line to make it right. How is the new light? I am putting a round LED on my Seca setup too, can't wait.

The net of this is, you can't just plug an LED H4 into these bikes and have it work with no issues. You need to add other electronic components so that the filament test that's built-in to the instrument cluster will not complain about the new bulb. As far as I know, nobody makes a plug and play solution for this. The linked thread describes two circuit mod options that have been shown to work.

Geez thanx. Far outta my realm of expertise. I dont see the thread u mentioned though. Also, the light is still connected and wrkin fine. Will it adversely affect anything on the bike if I leave it? Thx again.

It will work fine. It'll just keep complaining with the HEAD warning.

I don't understand why you don't see the thread I linked... it's even in the reply you quoted.
