    Hello all,

I thought I'd formally introduce myself before starting to post in earnest. I just this past week acquired an '83 Seca 750. It's the first Yamaha I've owned. I've been a Suzuki GS owner for over twenty years.

I picked this bike up for free, because the previous owner is moving and just wanted to get rid of it. It has 11,000 miles, and sat in a shed for about 12 years. The previous owner changed the oil and jump started it last year. It roughly idled for a few seconds and died. He couldn't get it restarted, so gave up and did nothing else to it since. It's mostly complete, needs a windshield, front turnsignals, and the front brake calipers (which were removed by the p.o. because they were seized up) need rebuilding or replacement. A new coat of paint will eventually be in order as well.

In the last five years, I've resurrected three GS bikes back from the dead (I still own the 1100 and 750, but sold the 550), and have owned a GS700 for twenty-three years (bought it new in '85). The basic XJ design is very similar to the GS, so I've got a good knowledge foundation to build upon . I've already learned a few things from this site that are unique to the XJs, and will probably have a few more questions along the way.

Thanks to everyone for what I've already learned here, and thanks in advance for the future help I'm sure I'll get.

    Here are a couple pics.

I dunked her with a bucket of water and wiped her down, she looks a lot better already.

Way nicer than my free bike that's for sure.

    Welcome.

Thanks for the welcomes, and the links. Yeah, the original fairing lowers are long gone, and I'm highly doubtful that I'll ever find some. That's ok though, I think the fairing looks pretty good without them. Yamaha did a nice job designing the bottom lines of the fairing to flow smoothly with the lines of the tank.

One thing I like about this bike already is that it's about 30 lbs. lighter than my '81 GS750. :)

Good score and welcome! Be of good cheer, someone somewhere may have pity on us and let us cast their lowers to make new molds for fresh castings. Anything is possible.

Looks like a great base for a resto, or just a fix up and ride. Hope we can all be of help to you. I can't even begin to say how beneficial a resource this forum has been in my bike build so far. Best wishes!

    Regards, Darryl
