Valve guide replacement?

    Who has had to replace valve guides in their JX?

    Not on an xj, but if you have to - beware, it's not the simple job some people would have you believe. Valve guides are seldom concentric, so you push a new one in that is 2 thou out, and the one your replacing was 2 thou out the other way - there you go you now have to cut 4 thou out of the seat to get contact, more to get a good seat.
    The eccentricity can sometimes be useful - if you have a race head and the seats are running into each other you can offset both to gain a useful bit - breathtaking stuff though.
