blinkers working but not properly

    1983 midnight maxim blinkers when i hit the blinker switch and hold the slide to one side or another they come on and blink but only till i let go of the switch not till i turn them off. does anyone have any ideas ? blinkers do come on only while i am holding the switch. if i let go of it they turn off immediately

    Have you tried opening the switch and cleaning the moving parts inside?

    Do you have the self-canceling unit still on the bike it is meant to turn off the relay pull it and see if your issue goes away. If the problem doesn't go away you should be looking at the internals on the control.
    I believe the flasher relay also has a capacitor inside of it that sets The flash right I'll have to check on that the cap maybe bad

    Does sound like the self-cancelling module.

    YES I DID THAT A
    YES I DID THAT A YEAR AGO AND K
    yes i cleaned the switch last year maybe ill do it again it seems like the switch it moves right back to the middle position

    just put a new flasher in from xj4ever works fine . i will check the self cancelling switch thanks

    i removed the self cancelling unit and it fixed my problem thank you
