Funny, I always look for lighter weight wheels, tires, and rotors?
I you have wobble problems there's a lot to checkout.

Fork alignment, frame, wheel bearings, wheel balance, bad tyre steering head bearings.

add to that to much weight if you have all the luggage racks and they are loaded up

Yup too high centre of gravity.

The early one is much lighter, don't know if it would fit though - the stanchions are bigger diameter, so they won't fit.

Wobbling only at high speeds with luggage above/around rear wheel. It's important that rear wheel weights as little as possible so that output meets as little workload as possible, but why care about how much front wheel weights? I don't want to do wheelies or anything. I can feel it taking off the ground and wobbling, like going slight downhill against wind at 100 mph or so, so I'm pretty sure above mentioned things are not the issue. I agree with Franz, these are often the issues, but not in this case. Besides, I really like the V-Max rims, and not to mention nearly mint perforated modern discs on it versus Maxim X's stock steel plates, new brake discs alone cost what he sells the wheel for. Could be an upgrade, both visually and technically. IF IT'D FIT, which I am curious to figure out hehe

Forgot to mention that V-Max has 18" front wheel, X has 19" front wheel. So the front would get lower and a bit heavier, plus better braking ability

Just did some bearing size checks - the xj uses 6302, Vmax 6303, So no, unless you use vmax forks as well, including trees. For what it's worth I think the early wheel would be a useful upgrade - wider, smaller diameter, better brakes, not too much heavier. But would need special trees.

bearings can be purchased to match od and id need for rim to be put on bike so thats not an issue. id is for axle diameter allballs racing has a chart for that.

this would affect the steering geometry
if weight is behind rear axle it is lifting front wheel ff ground. also when you open up throttle it lifts front wheel and the wobble starts.
you want to make sure of why its happening

If you[re getting a wobble, something else is wrong.

If you're feeling a ''floating'' type of ride I would say you first off could look into new forks springs. Got to get that front tire in firm contact with the road.
For the brake rotor match up just measure your present rotors pacing and compare it to the V-Max spacing. If you don't have the wheels in your hands
ask the seller to measure them for you?
I'm changing my front end over completely to an older (2000) R1, problem solved. BTW, my new springs are 1.0kgm. Could be (if you're carrying extra weight) that the rear may be too soft as well?
    just for thought.

That's a good call - never occurred to me. As For an 18 inch changing geometry, sure, but given the bigger tyre, not much, and I guess you'd have to evaluate if it's better or worse?
