In doing my Spring shim checks...

I know normally the clearance is when the Cam lobe is a 180゚ away from the pad. Anyone ever get maximum clearance with the lobe 30゚past that?

Doesn't seem right to me and I was very close to changing a shim on an intake that was at .114 and real snug getting feelers in.

Getting this new maximum clearance at .120 and I won't touch it now.

You are thinking that end of lobe is round . The clearance is based on 180degrees from the tip of lobe not 150 degrees. .114 intake ? Is in spec so no need to change

I got the replacement shim... measured a few more times... replaced, measured too thin, put the old one back and left it alone.

When I make sure the lobe is exactly 180 its in spec so, there you go I guess.
Now trying to dig out my main oil seal and freaking me out.
Don't want to booger the casing...

I have not tried to remove one of the pick up end oil seals. If the seal is say 5mm thick and if you have a Stanley knife where you can adjust the depth of the blade to 3mm perhaps you can cut it without marking the aluminium? Cut sections out of it, it may or may not help you out?

I did a little more research and think I'll get it out tonight. Will post a pic or two.
