So I got a brand new battery, poured the acid in and used it on the bike for a bit.

I did some carb tuning and a lot of failed starting attempts led to the battery running dead.

A few days later I pulled the battery out and brought it inside something like 10.6v? Also it had A LOT more acid in it than before ( sulfated? ).

I put it on the charger for hours and it doesn't seem to want to hold more than 11.5v.

I removed the extra acid to bring it within range and now I'm trying again.

Has anybody ever killed a battery this easily? Its BRAND NEW. I didnt know running it dead one time would cause this much of a hassle.

Its steady bubbling quietly so I know the process is going on, is this just going to be a very long process?

Every lead/acid battery that is shipped and sold "dry" needs the acid added to it, however, the battery needs to sit for a few hours before charging. I think the directions for this are included with the battery. This allows the glass mats to absorb the acid completely. If you added the acid, charged it and put it to use right away it may be toast.

I'm so confused. I've never had to charge a lead acid battery. I just put the acid in then slap it in the machine. I've done this many times and have never had to charge the battery or ever had an issue.

You also want to charge it slow the first time. I've been in a rush and charged them with a basic car charger and it seems to shorten the lifespan

Yeah I actually didn't even know you had to charge them before installing. I just put them into the machine right after putting acid in. Lol

Yeaaaah maybe it'll fix itself. Maybe my house will burn down. Hopefully this isn't my last post, but if it is.. you know what happened lol

Either you didn’t prep/charge the battery correctly..... or it’s a bad battery. Yes I get it’s new..... but I’ve lost count of the number of times I have gotten a new battery that was a bad.

Yeaaaah. I didnt prep / charge the battery at all. Lesson learned. Autozone thankfully swapped it out for a new one free of charge. This time I'm letting it sit for an hour then charging it slowly at 1a.

I would have thought gas or glass mats would mean AGM, which would mean not shipped dry. Dry shipped batteries, from what I've seen, have always been plain old lead/acid batteries, with no mats.

I f*** with SQL too bro. Its pretty funny. I work at an office and pull up in my loud ass motorcycle, then proceed to sit at a computer and code. Lol.

Bikers really aren't scary people. Were just normal people who like to go for a rip.
