I just changed the oil in the final gear drive gear. It had a magnetic plug in it and it was covered in a pretty sludgy mess. Should I be worried? Or should I just be happy that I changed the oil before it got too bad?

Mine was the same way, if you changed it last spring, bad news, but if its the first time its ever been changed ( most likely ), its normal.

Thanks guys. The bike is new to me so who knows when the last time it was changed. I think I might put a few miles on it and then change it again to see if it rinses out any more gunk.

Relax you have nothing to get worked up about. There will always be a bit on the drain plug, just use the proper weight and good quality lube.
