    Hello,

i’ve got a 1982 xj650. Spent the past year fixing it up and it seems to be working quite well now. One thing I’ve noticed is when the engine is heating up (10 mins or so) the engine is very sensitive to choke. If i put on choke all the way the engine can get up to 3-4k rpm. Im wondering if this is normal behavior or if something needs to be tuned? Once the engine is warmed up I can take it off choke and it’ll settle at a good 1.3k idle. I know choke is meant to dump fuel into the engine so it makes sense that the engine revs up, just want to make sure that this is pretty normal. Thanks all

are you saying you let your bike run for 10 minutes before riding it?
If so, I'd suggest you not do that to an air cooled motorcycle

but yeah, high revs on choke (en-richer) is normal

SOP is to reduce enrichment (choke) gradually as the engine warms up.

3 to 4 k on full choke is normal as rpm rise reduce choke. you do not have to wait untill you shut choke off to start riding. just remember to reduce choke/turn it off when you get down the road apiece
