I took off my throttle cable to work on the carbs. Then was gone for a week due to an emergency. Can't remember how to reconnect it. Please help. 1982 yamaha maxim xj750

Hook the end of the cable (barrel) to the throttle lever in the middle of the carbs, pull up on it and put the cable into the holder above

It's best to reconnect the throttle cable while you're installing the carbs, not after.

Otherwise, you may need need an extra hand to rotate the throttle linkage open so you can find the opening for the cable. Be careful trying to jam something in the linkage to hold it open. It's possible to do, but can be a little frustrating and takes some dexterity.
