Hi all , I have a 1985 xj750 maxim x , I'm stripping the carbs down have removed everything but the pilot screws , they must have been removed in the past cos the caps have been removed. One came out no problem but the other 3 seem to have tamper proof tops how do I get them off? Cheers Paul

    Small brass plugs?

Use a small drill bit and carefully drill into the center of the plug, be cautious if you pop through it, you can damage the top of the pilot screw. After hole is drilled use a sheet metal screw, deftly screw said screw into the drilled hole and use the screw as a handle to pull the plug out.

edit: saw you said caps/plugs were removed previously. Sounds like the “tamper proof” top is a mess from the PO. Get a small left hand drill, use a drill press or some type of rigid device, there is not much room for error and then drill those buggers out. Or try the allum trick.

The XJ750X is a Canadian only model and as far as my understanding the tamper proof plugs are never present on Canadian bikes.

you would think they would be installed to keep threads clean or at least the rubber plugs.
