Hello everyone. I've got another painting question:
I just got done practicing on my grab rail. I used the Plasti-Kote tractor and implement enamel. First I primed, then put about 3 coats of the gloss black on. Then I taped it up, and did some painting with the John Deere Green on top of the black. After I removed all the tape (I just used the standard blue tape normally used in your house when you're painting), it left a residue all over the black. The black used to really shine, and now it's really dull. I'm wondering what to use to take it off without recking the paint. Or, should I wait a while until the paint is cured more and then remove it? Any help would be appreciated.

By the way, I added a picture of the grab rail in my gallery if your interested what this color combination looks like.

I would wait until the paint has completely cured and then what I use to remove the residue is some rubbing alcohol. It has always worked for me. By the way. The John Deere green looks great! Glad to see I'm not the only one using implement paint. I am in the process of painting my bike CAT yellow.

Take a tip from the Pro's when Masking-off Motorcycle Parts for painting.
    DON'T use Masking Tape.
Use 3M Vinyl or Vinyl electrical tape.

    No residue.
    FINE lines.
    Flexible for contours and bends.
Lifts and reapplies without losing adhering quality.
Removes CLEAN leaving a FINE Line without Masking Tape "Bleed"

Wait until the paint has cured and try some WD-40. Works great for removing tacky residue and I don't think it will affect your paint. Try it in an obscure area of the tank first though - just to be sure.

Thanks for all the information guys. Looks like I need to wait for it to cure first. That said, how long does it take for it to cure?

RickOmatic--I'll certainly take your advice as I move on to paint the rest of the bike!

Are you sure your paint was dry/cured enough? Sounds like you taped on it to soon. Even though it may appear and feel dry it may not be, and when taped on it causes tape tracking. It looks like adhesive left behind from the tape, but is actually an impression of the tape left in the paint. We use plenty of blue tape in the shop with no problems, but like rick said, not for paint edges. Its never left a residue but has been known to tape track. Solution, sand out and buff or scuff and recoat.

If you have Large areas to mask ... Lay down the Vinyl tape creating your straight or curved lines.

Then, Use Masking Tape ... letting the masking tape be applied to the Vinyl you laid-down ... leaving the Vinyl "Making-the-line" and the Masking tape and paper off the work.

Goo-Gone is a good adhesive remover that is safe on paint and is biodegradable. I used it on by brother's car to remove "Racing" stickers that the PO had on and it removed the residue very easily.

+1 for Goo-Gone... you have to let it sit a while but it works great on residue from old stickers and such.

Goo Gone also works great when you are walking across a parking lot and step in some morons gum he just ditched out the window. Cleans it right off.

Don't use "Masking Tape" to make the >Tape-to-metal< contact.
Use Vinyl Tape to make the contact to the metal surface.
USE Masking tape to seal the edges of masking paper.

Lay down some 3M Vinyl Masking Tape to make your edges.
Apply the paper and Masking Tape it on to the Vinyl tape.

The Vinyl tape lifts off CLEAN
The Vinyl Tape DOES NOT Bleed
The Vinyl tape makes a razor clean edge and pulls-off without residue.
The vinyl Tape BENDS and makes contours ... can be Lifted-off, straightened out or re-contoured or moved without losing its adhesive quality.

Pressed firmly on the work, you get a Professional Edge every time without having to respray or touch-up a Bleed through.

The Vinyl Tape can even be Black electrical tape or any of a wide variety of special narrow widths that are available for leaving on as a stripe or peeling off as a mask for a base protection when you spray-on an over-color.

Use Masking tape to paint your bathroom
Use Vinyl tape to paint your motorcycle!!!
