1981 XJ750 Kazoo noise

    I just recently bought a 81 750 SECA and went to take it out the other night and heard a weird kazoo sound coming from the gauge cluster when I was moving below 20mph. Was curious if this was a common issue.

    Yep, your speedometer and drive cable needs cleaning and lubrication.

    My 82 seca did this , I pulled cluster off and took apart, DO NOT touch needle or face plate. I used PB blaster with a spray nozzle , spray the gimble ( down towards the neck this where the factory grease dries out) spray down into the neck ( where the cable attaches) I put a dab of white lithium grease with a qtip on the gears and down the neck , so fat no more humming or roaring noise.     I lubed the old one and it lasted for a couple trips then started again. So i tore into the gauge cluster and lubed some of the gears and springs inside and it no longer buzzes. Thank you!
