Anyone know if this works, looking at @hogfiddles tank pages it looks like it might fit the frame, will it line up with the seat?Maybe with some plastic reshaping at the front?

I only see a 750 seca swap for the XJ900rk in his notes

I have a 650rj and a XJ900rk i will look to see if the 650 tank fits on900 on tuesday.

If read all the way through, there is enough info to extrapolate, but I will do a comparo and add it to my forum

I did extrapolate, and it does feel doable, the seat fit would be icing on the cake though. The 900 frame has bigger tubes, and I wasn't sure how much difference this causes.

Could an XJR 1300 tank be adapted to fit the 900f. One of the members fitted one on his XS1100 but the frames will be different. Worth looking at though.

ok the tank sort of fits.
if you push tank fully forward the rear mount will not line up.
pull tank about half way back on rubber mounts in front and rear mount lines up.

1st problem is rear mounting rubber does not conform to bottom of tank it is to wide for tank to sit on the bolt down boss.

could trim or try 650 rubber.( i will try that).
when lined up at rear the fork clamps hit the front seam of tank(both sides) when turned almost full. also my left controm buttom hit tank so handlebars need to be adjusted to clear top of tank.

I may go this route as my tank is not a tank anymore, also have extra seat pan if it needs to be reshapped

may also want to make custom rubber front mounts to fit deeper into the channel on tank

Just to be clear - is this a seca tank on a 900? Had any thoughts about sidepanels? Could seca ones be made to fit with some brackets?
    Thanks

If it works it will be a viable option - once I find a tank. The sidepanels I have, but not seen a tank in the UK in a while.
The 900 "framy" I have is looking to get costly, what with buying wheels, brakes, tank, seat, loom, clocks etc. But then it will hopefully be a usable one-off.

Will give that some thought, comments about it needing to look good noted and agreed with. It needs to look like a 650 seca!

    To make a 900rk look like a 650rj , you need to put a 900rk engine in a 650rj frame

yup with the seca650 rubber tank fits with clearance to fork. left control hits tank.

tank hits frame just forward of the junction of frame tubes where the plate is welded on that has a screw hole in it. may shim up the rubber a little or some fine tuning with a hammer under the tank. may be shim rubber to lift slightly , but it may hit the frok clamp if you go up
side cover fits on no problem but there is a gap under tank a rectangle
seat goes on well and you lose the sidecover top mount in the 900 tank

Seat needs a bit of work, your airbox is different to mine - I don't have the sloping back ribbed bits on the sides, I wonder what box I have -it fits the carbs?

I bet yours is the same..... remember the black sloping part you see is actually part of the 900rk side cover

I’ll pull a side off and take a pic of the box for you
