81 650 Maxim Aftermarket Throttle Issues

    So, I swapped out the grips and throttle on my 650, along with switches, bars, and levers. The problem I'm having is that the new throttle seems to grab about 1/8" more cable than the OEM throttle. This means it's pulling the throttle which is obviously an issue.

    To solve this I tried to turn the screw where the cable attaches to the linkage that connects to the throttle shaft (I think that's what it is called) and that worked for about two seconds until the RPMs shot up. So I put the screw back (probably) to where it was and attempted to cut the sheath with a Dremel and wound up cutting the cable. I got a new cable, "OEM" from eBay and the same issue has presented itself (surprise surprise).

    My question to you, oh Magicians of Maxims, Sorcerers of Secas, is how do I modify the sheath or cable to work? I probably have to just order a new, shorter sheathed cable but I'm hoping one of you has Mickey Moused or Redneck engineered an answer to this so I don't have to wait till next week to get the last few rides of the season on.

    Update: Figured it out! Funny enough I tried the Dremel approach but in a smarter way. I took the cable (new one) and stuck it in a vise with the bent tube side up and the sheath exposed. I slowly (SLOWLY) cut around the circumference of the sheath, taking extra care to avoid hitting the cable, and popped the 18"+ piece off, grabbed it with a pair of dykes, and squeezed it like hell to cut it off.
