Oil pump chain slack

    Is this much slack in the oil pump chain normal? Seems really excessive to me but I can't find anything in the manual about a spec.

    That's normal slack, nothing to be concerned about.

    Strange, I've just never seen so much slack in a chain before. I wonder why it was designed like that..

    My engine is the same I am sure it was designed to last the lifetime of the engine. They are not expensive but I didn't change mine.

    The slack is to make sure that it doesn't break under load. There is no place to put an automatic tensioner or guide, and neither is necessary for an oil pump.

    Seems a bit more than what my engine had, but probably fine as its not under much load. Maybe see how much a new chain is if you want to be sure...
