Swingarm mounting bolt, right side. There is a special procedure for mounting it. Get a service manaul.

Are you positive? This doesn't look like a swingarm bolt. It has a point on the bottom that when pressed in sounds like oil is in it...

I think its the neutral switch. It goes under the engine, in the lower crank casing on the left hand side. About in the middle.

Its the switch for the neutral light, should have a small threaded hole in the end to hold the cable connector...The swingarm bolt is much bigger than that....

It's definitely the neutral switch. Located on the underside of the engine roughly in line with the oil right glass & tucked behind the frame tube. Before reinstalling make sure the plunger isn't sticking, if the internal spring is broken the switch will need replacing. Also dont forget to fit a copper crush washer.

Of course with more info it turns out that I'm wrong. :)

... the plunger should look like the LH switch on this photo. From memory the neutral switch is on the starter motor circuit so if it's faulty the bike will occasionally refuse to start (often remedied by rocking the bike forward whilst holding the front brake). Easy fix is to bypass or short circuit the wiring however I think the switch is there to protect the starter motor mechanism.

My neutral light didn't work (PO had messed up the harness too) and it was like the one in the right hand side of the photograph so I have fitted a new one.

The neutral switch is to make sure that you don't try to start the bike in gear without pulling the clutch in (part of the safety interlock system). Falling on your butt in a parking lot is not representative of the cool side of motorcycling.

if you start it in neutral, it turns over faster
not sure i'd trust a old switch, jump it out or get a new one
if you jump it out just put a regular bolt in, the switch can leak from the center

It looks like I can reuse it, the problem for me is I will have to yank the engine out of the frame to get this installed, not such a big deal now that I know how to pull it out.

You will not have to pull the engine.
You will have to cut a socket lengthwise for clearance though.
