Just got back from a ride and noticed speedo not working. Thought maybe it was the cable but it seems intact and doesn't spin freely unless I pull the cable up enough to disconnect from the wheel side. I suspect its the instrument side as about a year ago the faceplate dial broke in 1/2 and I had to fix it with hot glue. Any easy way to tell?

pull the cable from the speedo drive and attach it to an electric drill. See if it will spin the speedometer.

Got around to doing as you suggested today. Spinning it with a drill works on the speedo. determined it's the drive which makes sense as I thought I had heard a strange buzzing sound coming from the front wheel shortly before it went out. Got a used drive on the way from ebay. Cheaper than a new cluster so thanks for the tip!

Well now—-if you had told us before, that you heard a funny sound from the front wheel shortly ahead of when it stopped, we would have told you to check that first

I know. I had forgot about it as at the time I thought it was just that strange vibration around 4200 rpm that it's always made only a little louder
